Gorse Mill Studios is a 19th-century former textile mill - the last of its kind in Needham - located at 31 Thorpe Road. The building was recently renovated to create art studios and a shared gallery space. Among the building’s artists are potters, ceramicists, glass blowers, painters, sculptors, mosaic artists, jewelers, illustrators, stained-glass artists, graphic designers, mixed-media artists, a storyteller and a clothing designer.
World-renowned potter Steven Branfman conceived of and spearheaded the renovation. Branfman’s own Potters Shop and each of the other 32 studio condominiums is deeded for artistic purposes only. Says Branfman, “Gorse Mill Studios is the only building I’m aware of with artist-owned,
work-only spaces that’s guaranteed to be artist-occupied forever.” With more than 60 percent of the studios sold in the first few months, Gorse Mills has become a vibrant community of artists from Needham and neighboring towns. Visit www.gorsemillstudios.com for more details.
