Leveraging Investments in Creativity (LINC)
Founded in 2003, LINC is a ten-year national initiative to improve conditions for artists in all disciplines, so that artists can more readily do their creative work and contribute to community life.
Massachusetts Cultural Council
The Massachusetts Cultural Council is a state agency committed to building a central place for arts and culture in the everyday lives of communities across the Commonwealth. It pursues this mission through a combination of grants, services, and advocacy for cultural organizations, schools, communities, and artists. The MCC receives an annual appropriation from the state Legislature and funds from the National Endowment for the Arts and other sources.
The Boston Foundation
The Boston Foundation, Greater Boston’s community foundation, is one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the nation, with an endowment of over $730 million. In 2005, the Foundation and its donors made more than $60 million in grants to non-profit organizations and received gifts of more than $70 million. The Foundation is made up of some 850 separate charitable funds established by donors either for the general benefit of the community or for special purposes. The Boston Foundation also serves as a major civic leader, provider of information, convener, and sponsor of special initiatives designed to address the community’s and region’s most pressing challenges. The New England Foundation for the Arts
New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) has been a significant cultural force since 1975, when it was created as one of six regional arts organizations nationwide. Through extensive funding, advocacy, and networking efforts, NEFA promotes the creation and distribution of the full range of artistic expression. NEFA is a grantmaker, program initiator, regional laboratory, project coordinator, developer of resources, and builder of creative partnerships among artists, arts organizations and funders. NEFA is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts; the New England state arts agencies; and corporations, foundations, and individuals.
NEFA creatively supports the movement of people, ideas, and resources in the arts within New England and beyond, make vital connections between artists and audiences, and build the strength, knowledge, and leadership of the region's creative sector.
LEF Foundation
The LEF Foundation was established in 1985. Its mission is to support the creation and presentation of innovative contemporary work in visual art, performing arts, intermedia, and independent film. LEF funding protects the artist’s ability to take creative risks and strengthens the environment in which artists live and work.
Local Initiatives Support Corporation
LISC helps community-based development organizations transform distressed communities and neighborhoods into good places to live, do business, and raise families. By providing capital, technical expertise, training and information, LISC supports the development of local leadership and the creation of affordable housing, commercial, industrial and community facilities. LISC helps neighbors build communities.
The Boston Redevelopment Authority
As the City of Boston’s Planning and Economic Development agency, the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) oversees real estate development review and economic initiatives in each of Boston’s many neighborhoods. The BRA operates two initiatives to support the creative sector: the Artist Space Initiative works with developers and neighborhood groups to encourage the development of permanent, affordable artist space. The Artists Foundation
Founded in 1973, the mission of the Artists Foundation is: 1) to advocate for artists in public policy issues; 2) to convene artists, arts institutions, the private sector and diverse groups on issues of mutual interest; 3) to support the presentation of the arts in traditional, nontraditional, and public spaces; and 4) to support access to essential resources/services for artists.
