IDEAS 5 is an artists' studio and gallery made available by the Office of Mayor Richard C. Howard and the Malden Redevelopment Authority (MRA) for 5 artists who needed a space to create their art.
Many years ago, several Malden artisans obtained studio space in the MRA's converted firehouse on Pearl Street. MRA recently required the artist's space for teaching and decided to relocate the artists to the downtown area. The MRA found an empty store for use as studios. Three artists from the Pearl Street studio - Ginny, Jim and Denise - moved to the new studios. Julia and Patti (no longer with IDEAS 5) are new artists who have joined the group to set up a workspaces / studios.
We are delighted and encouraged that IDEAS 5 has become a starting point for other artists seeking studio space to produce their work in the community.
Thanks to the assistance of the Mayor and the MRA, other artist's galleries are beginning to open in Malden. This project is helping to rejuvenate Malden Center to the benefit of the entire community.
