Allston/Brighton Open Studios: (mid-November) Open Studios provides an exciting opportunity for visitors to interact directly with artists who create the work. See completed works and works in progress. The neighborhood of Allston is compact and diverse. All art studios are within an easy walking distance and can be seen in one day.
Arlington Open Studios: (mid-October) The Arlington Center for the Arts is a nonprofit, community based arts organization founded in 1988 and housed in the Gibbs Center located in Arlington, MA.
ArtSpace Maynard Open Studios: (early October) ArtSpace-Maynard presents its annual open studios event on the first weekend in October in conjunction with the town wide celebration-MaynardFest and a holiday sale in December. It coordinates educational endeavors with local schools and organizations, presents public discussion groups and lectures about art and art-related matters, hosts tours for schools, organizations and the community at large.
The Art Drive: (mid-August) New event organized by Dartmouth and Westport artists. Visitors will enjoy a great weekend venue while touring these historic Massachusetts South Coast towns. With only 15 miles separating the twenty-four studios, visitors will enjoy a casual drive through this picturesque area with plenty of time for a picnic lunch or to dine at area restaurants.
Beacon Hill Art Walk: (early June) The Art Walk is an annual event that takes place on the first Sunday in June, throughout the nooks and crannies of Beacon Hill. Residents open up their private gardens, alleyways, and courtyards and allow artists to display and sell their artwork. Around 100 artists usually participate, with a variety of styles, media, and subject matter.
Beverly Arts Fest: (June) Arts Fest's mission is to promote the designated Beverly Arts District with a day long street festival on Cabot Street celebrating art and entertainment.
Brickbottom Open Studios: (November) The BAA's annual Open Studios is one of the oldest in Boston. Year-round, the Brickbottom gallery presents thoughtful and professionally curated art exhibitions as Somerville's only not-for-profit contemporary art gallery, as well as events and classes open to the community.
Brookline Artists' Open Studios: (early May) Brookline Artists Open Studios is an annual springtime event, held in locations all over Brookline, since 1986. Artists working in all media participate by opening their homes and studios to the public for one weekend. The public connection to the artist nurtures an understanding of the creative process.
Cambridge Open Studios: (April & May) Artists throughout Cambridge open their doors to the public for the first city-wide Cambridge Open Studios (COS) during three weekends in April and May. Meet hundreds of artists and discover unique paintings, jewelry, fiber arts, ceramics, film, mixed-media, literary works, and more! Cambridge Open Studios is a collaboration of the Cambridge Arts Council (CAC), Cambridgeport Artists Open Studios (CAOS), North Cambridge All Arts Open Studios (NoCA) and artists and arts organizations throughout the city to enable significant interaction between the local arts community, residents and visitors to Cambridge.
Cape Ann Artisans: (June and October) Come visit during Open Studio Tours, celebrating its 26th year. As you travel around the beautiful coast of Essex, Gloucester and Rockport, look for the tour's magenta banners.
Charlestown Open Studio: (early December) Founded in 1997 by a small group of resident artists to promote awareness and appreciation of, and participation in, the visual and related arts, The Artists’ Group of Charlestown incorporated in 2002.
Dorchester Arts Collaborative: (early June) The Dorchester Arts Collaborative was founded in 2002 to develop and facilitate arts programming in Dorchester and to cultivate the social, cultural, and economic enrichment of Boston's largest and most diverse neighborhood.
East Boston Artists Group: (early October) Come see the latest creations of over 50 East Boston artists in their newly renovated studios, view group exhibitions, and attend live music and dance performances.
Easthampton Art Walk: (Second Saturday of every month, 5-8pm) Come to Art Walk Easthampton each "Second Saturday." More than a dozen locations host visual, music and performance art in an energetic sampling of local, regional and national talent. Just look for large, yellow banners outside each participating location.
Fall River Open Studios: (early May) Over 50 artists across Fall River will join in presenting their art to the public on this second Open Studios tour. One group has colonized the whole third floor of 1 West Street, and another has just opened a high-end woodworking studio in the old mill building at 192 Anawan St. More artists are moving into empty storefronts downtown as part of the Storefront Artists Project.
Fenway Open Studios: Fenway Studios was designed so that all 46 studios would have north light. During the early history of the building numerous prominent artists and teachers worked here including Edmund Tarbell, Lillian Wescot Hale, George L. Noyes, Charles Hopkinson, to name just a few. Today, a broad variety of contemporary painting styles are represented in Fenway Studios.
Fort Point Arts Community: (May & October) Boston's original Open Studios: Pick up a map and explore the historic warehouses which house the studios of Fort Point artists! Over 200 artists, working in all media of fine art and craft, invite you in to see their newest work. In addition, there will be outdoor art installations, music, art activities for children, food and performance.
Fountain Street Open Studios: (early April) Fountain Street Studios is a thriving artists' community located in the historic Bancroft Building in South Framingham. What began in 1996, when four artists shared the building with a multitude of businesses, has now grown to include over 50 working artists.
Holliston Mill Artist Studios: (late October) All are welcome to visit the studios, look at the artwork, ask questions, enjoy the studio's group shows, and partake of refreshments. 10 guest artists are invited by private invitation in addition to the studio's artists. Free parking and free admission! Young musicians will perform in the lobbies during Open Studios.
Hyde Park Open Studios: (early December) The inspiration to host an Open Studios event in Hyde Park started 5 years ago with three artists who all had work space at the Sprague Street Studios. Realizing that there were a growing number of artists in Hyde Park, the three decided to plan the event, even if they ended up being the only exhibitors! Since then, the event has grown with 80 plus artists this year.
Jamaica Plain Open Studios: (late September) Over 200 artists open their studios and show in group sites around Jamaica Plain.
Joy Street Artists Open Studios: (early May) Welcome to Somerville's vibrant new artist community of sixty-two studios in the historic Brickbottom district off Union Square. The third open studios, held each year the weekend before Thanksgiving, features live demonstrations in all media.
Lexington Open Studios: (May) Over seventy Lexington-affiliated artists, four guilds, an art gallery, and curators at the town high school and First Parish inaugurate the first-ever Town of Lexington Open Studios this May!
Lowell Open Studios: (late September) Lowell Open Studios is a yearly event put on by a volunteer committee of artists. The artists of Lowell are invited to throw open their doors to the public on the last weekend in September.
Marblehead Open Studio Tour: The Marblehead Arts Association can look forward to building on its 80 year tradition of fostering “the knowledge and love of the fine and applied arts and kindred subjects, and their application to industry and civic life.”
Mudflat Open Studios: (late April/early May) Mudflat Studio has offered the metropolitan Boston community a unique opportunity for clay work and play since 1971. As both an exciting, professionally run ceramics school and home to 18 clay artists, Mudflat follows its mission to promote and expand awareness and interest in the ceramic arts.
Munroe Center for the Arts, Lexington: (early May) The mission of the Munroe Center for the Arts is to support excellence, creativity and exploration in arts and culture through ArtSpan classes, public programs, exhibitions and community service by studio artists. 11 artists from the Lexington area will open their doors for an exciting open studio event! Also on display will be a collaborative exhibition of the Munroe Artists. Events and free demo classes will be held by the Munroe Center organizations including ArtSpan, Lexington Music School. Children's Arts Corner, Lexington School of Ballet, The Dance Inn, Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwan Do and Lexington Players.
Natick Artists Open Studios: (mid-October) Art Walk!, a festival celebrating the vibrant and growing MetroWest arts scene, will be held in historic Natick Center. During this free celebration, attendees will have the opportunity to view the work of local artists, while enjoying light refreshments and musical entertainment.
Needham Open Studios: (early May) Come take a behind-the-scenes look at Needham’s community of award-winning visual artists. Artists will be at each location to talk about and sell their work.
New Bedford Open Studios: (early Oct) New Bedford Open Studios is a citywide event including over 80 artists, in 7 historical mill buildings. View art in the working studios in which it was made and talk to the artists. New Bedford is central to Boston, Providence, and the Cape.
Newburyport Art Walk: Newburyport's art galleries roll out their welcome mats on Saturday for the next installment of the city's ArtWalk. The series of free, self-guided walking tours highlights 15 galleries in the city.
Newton Open Studios: (mid-May) Newton Open Studios produces community arts events that bring together the artists and residents of Newton. It has grown into one of the largest suburban open studios events, and in 2006, was recognized by the Boston Globe Magazine in its Brief Guide to the Best Open Studios.
North Adams Open Studios: (mid-October) North Adams Open Studios is a citywide event that showcases artists working in and around North Adams. Open Studios inspires and enlivens the community through the arts and grows the creative economy by drawing art lovers and tourists to North Adams and all it has to offer.
Northampton Arts Night Out: (Second Friday of every month, 5-8pm) These festive Fridays offer a cultural excursion around Northampton's visual arts community, with artist showings and light refreshments at selected galleries.
Paper City Studios: (early May) Paper City Studios' "Pulp Science Fiction" spring event at its location in the Holyoke canal district offers open studios with resident artists working in painting, frawing, photography, sculpture, multimedia, performance and fashion design.
Pittsfield Third Thursdays: (Third Thursday of the month, 5-8pm, May to October) First Thursdays are back. Downtown businesses will be open late and bringing entertainment for all, rain or shine. Galleries and artist studios will be open late to the public and many are hosting receptions.
Rockland Open Studios - 4th floor artists: (November) Come interact with artists of all media, view completed works and works in progress. The Et Wright Building and the Sandaper Company are within easy walking distance. ET Wright Building, 379 Liberty St., Rockland. American Sandpaper Co., 83 East Water St., Rockland.
Roslindale Open Studios: (early November) The Roslindale Open Studios is an exciting weekend event offering artists and the public a chance to connect with each other in a comfortable community setting. Local artists open the doors to their workplaces and homes; businesses and restaurants host shows and events; out-of-town artists are welcomed at a large Group Show in Roslindale Village.
Roxbury Open Studios/ACT Roxbury: (early October) Located in the geographic heart of Boston, Roxbury's artists will be showcasing their works in galleries in the South End, group shows on Fort Hill and Mission Hill, and in home and loft studios all around the neighborhood.
Salem Open Studios: (December) Come visit Salem artists in their studios! Shop for the holidays and talk to the artists themselves. Over 40 artists are opening their workshop and studios in this one-of-a-kind experience.
Saxonville Open Studios: (Autumn) Sixteen years ago a group of artists came together to form what is now known as Saxonville Studios. They located themselves in the heart of Saxonville, Framingham's historical "Soho" neighborhood village in the old Saxonville mill building on the Sudbury River. Over the years the studios have promoted art in the community by opening its doors for its Annual Open Studios event.
Somerville Open Studios: (early May) Somerville Open Studios provides opportunities to view art made within the community; to interact with local artists; and to have access to artists' working spaces. SOS' goal is to broaden the public's exposure to, and appreciation of, finished works of art as well as the art-making process. This exposure both educates the community and raises awareness of the diverse artistic experience available in Somerville.
South Boston/Distillery Open Studios: (early June) The Distillery is a vibrant community of artists, artisans, and small businesses located in a beautiful mid 19th century converted rum distillery building. Located in lovely and historic South Boston, The Distillery houses three galleries as well as approximately 140 tenants in its studios and studio apartments. There will also be a "silent auction exhibit" and open studios preview on Friday evening, June 6th, from 6-9pm in The Distillery Gallery on the first floor. All events are free and open to the public.
South End Open Studios: (September) Established over 20 years ago, the 250+ United South End Artists hold their open studios every third weekend of September. This is your chance to meet the artists firsthand, explore types of work that are both familiar and new to you, and purchase work directly from the artists or make appointments to visit individual artists after Open Studios for a more in-depth look at their work.
SoWa Art Walk: (mid-May) The SoWa Art Walk is held every spring in the SoWa (South of Washington Street) neighborhood in Boston’s South End. A former mill building district where pianos, canned goods, shoes and other merchandise were made in the 19th century, the district has been home to artists’ studios carved out of the old factories for the last fifty years. Today, the artists have been joined by art galleries, creative businesses, cutting edge restaurants and the recent boom in residential loft buildings.
Vernon Street Open Studios: (early November and early May) Located in an historic 19th century brick industrial building, Vernon Street housed the first group of artists to open their studios to the public in 1975. The Open Studios event allows attendees to learn about the creative process, interact with artists in the spaces where they create, purchase original artwork, and discover new talent.
Waltham Mills Open Studios: (early November) Over 30 years ago, a group of artists began to rehabilitate space in the same buildings that once employed hundreds and had fallen into disuse. That group transformed the neglected and degenerating buildings into studios where it could create art, and in some cases, reside. The artists of the WMAA have a long history of community involvement as educators, arts events organizars and community leaders.
West Concord Designers Open Studios: Featuring 4 open studios with 15 award-winning artisans for fall and early holiday shopping.
Watertown/Belmont Open Studios: (late April) Meet over 50 artists and discover unique paintings, jewelry, fiber arts, ceramics, photography, mixed-media, and more! WBOS is a collaboration of the Arsenal Center for the Arts, Belmont Art Gallery and artists and businesses throughout the two cities to enable an exciting interaction between the local arts community, residents and visitors.
West Medford Open Studios: (late April/early May) The West Medford Open Studios is a multicultural arts group intended to enhance the community. WMOS encourages a dialogue among the artists, curious neighbors, and the broader public. For adults, this is a chance to broaden their knowledge of the creative process. For younger folks, it is a chance to meet working artists living in their midst, and to ask questions about how an artist pursues his or her craft.
Western Avenue Open Studios: (First Saturday of every month, 12-5pm) Since opening day, Western Avenue Studios has become an intregal part of the cultural life of the city of Lowell. In addition to participating in the annual citywide Lowell Open Studios and holding monthly First Saturday Open Studios, WAS has provided venues for the 7th Annual International Edible Book Festival, the Lowell Quilt Festival, and the Lowell Photography Weekend.
Worcester Arts Group: The Worcester Artist Group is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting visual and performing arts in the Greater Worcester Area.
