Key Web Sites for Finding Grants and Calls for Artists

NYFASource
New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) offers the nation’s most extensive database of awards, services and publications for artists of all disciplines. All of its listings are free. Truly a must for any artist.

ArtSource/Artist Resource Center at SMFA
A comprehensive index of arts-related employment opportunities, internships, grants, residencies, exhibition, public art commissions, artist workspaces, and related community resources pubished by the Artist’s Resource Center at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Chicago Artists Resource
Amazingly thorough site created by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs that is not just for Chicago artists! It has a ton of useful information, including lists of opportunities, artist stories, business training and jobs.

Artists Foundation
AF provides free information and resources to artists such as healthcare information, job opportunities, and grants for artists. Sign up for their email list and receive all kinds of helpful listings (grants, show opportunities etc).

ArtDeadlines
This web site lists art contests, art jobs, art scholarships & grants, art festivals, calls for entries, and much more.

Creative Capital
Creative Capital, a New York City-based nonprofit organization, acts as a catalyst for the development of adventurous and imaginative ideas by supporting artists who pursue innovation in form and/or content in the performing and visual arts, film and video, and in emerging fields. They offer grant programs and services for artists.

Massachusetts Foundations/Agencies Which Give Grants to Artists

Massachusetts Cultural Council
MCC gives grants to individual artists of most disciplines, check out their page on the artist fellowships.  They also have a blog called ArtSake with more information for artists.

LEF Foundation
LEF is a private foundation that supports the creation and presentation of contemporary work in the fields of visual art, performing art, new media, literary art, architecture and design.

Arts Foundation of Cape Cod
This organization supports local artists and art and cultural organizations with grants ranging from $500 to $2500. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Berkshire Tactonic Community Foundation
Administers the Artist’s Resource Trust Fund, which supports visual artists living in New England, and non-profit organizations commissioning new work or purchasing existing works by mid-career artists. 

Grant Writing

The Grantsmanship Center
A leader in the grantsmanship training field, The Grantsmanship Center Institute’s web site provides workshops schedules and lists of resources published by TGCI that can be ordered online.

GrantProposal.com
Created by Elizabeth Brunner, a fund raiser and consultant in California, this site offers advice on grant seeking – including how to gather information about grant makers and craft letters of inquiry and proposals. The site also provides links to other web sites pertaining to grant seeking.

The Fund for Women Artists
A non-profit service organization formerly of Western Massachusetts (San Francisco based now) and dedicated to increasing the diversity and employment of women in the arts, with a focus on theater, film and video. The Fund helps women obtain money from other sources by providing free or low-cost grantwriting and management services.
