Helpful Hints
Buying property is a complicated experience. You are probably wondering, "How much of this do I have to do to purchase property?" Well, the more you know, the less likely you will spend money on things you should not do.
So here is a quick list of hints:
- Take a first time homebuyers class and finish with your class. It may be difficult to make up classes at the time you are trying to purchase.
- Take advantage of one-on-one counseling. The information will be tailored to your situation and you will receive very helpful next best steps.
- Research your real estate professionals in advance. When you actually find the property, you may not have the time to do the proper research.
- Read the Real Estate pages regularly so that you will have an idea of the housing market and mortgage interest rates.
- Review your credit reports and know your credit score. Research shows that many people could have received a better interest rate if they knew that their credit was good enough for a good rate.
- If your credit is not good, work on improving it before applying for a mortgage.
- Do not skip the home inspection and the real estate attorney. If you cannot afford to pay for investigating property worth over $100,000, you probably cannot afford to buy.
- Beware of mortgages with very low payments relative to what you are borrowing. Those loans may request a balloon payment (large payment) when you can least afford it. To learn more about mortgage products click here http://www.mtgprofessor.com/Default.htm).
- When shopping for a mortgage, ask the lender for a sample payment schedule for up to 10 years. It will demonstrate whether or not the payments will increase.
- Get advice from friends and family that own property in addition to seeking professional assistance.
- Review your budget before you buy and make necessary adjustments to your spending habits.
- Know what you want but keep an open mind. There are so many variations of home ownership opportunities. Be open to the possibilities.
