Example City Initiatives
Cities all across the globe are seeing the benefit of assiting artists and creative business to find and create space. In this section of the web site we have a brief review of the Tools which cities can use to create space and manage arts districts. We also have a large sction which describes what other cities have done: See examples of what cities are doing here.
Also check out the The Bruner Foundation's Rudy Bruner Awards: These awards recognize excellence in social change through physical place and highlight many successful artist space projects and strategies.
Programming: Events, Festivals and much more
On this website we don't speak a lot about one of the key things that cities can do to make themselves unique: cultural programming. The role that programming plays in supporting cultural activity deserves special attention. Programming can include cultural consumption events, such as festivals, art fairs, or gallery crawls. Programming is much more than an individual event at a single venue (such as a gallery opening or performance of a show). A collection of different events can form visible ephemera that may attract visitors and residents alike. We do not focus on this web site on laying out the different kinds of programming that cities are doing, we focus instead only on efforts revolving around space.
